I have loved going to Bath and Body Works ever since I was a young girl, so when I received an email yesterday stating that select seasonal scents could be purchased for $5.95 a piece (that’s a deal!), I opened up a spot in my calendar to go sniff around and shop the new fall fragrances! That’s right, the new fall fragrances have arrived at Bath and Body Works and just in time for August! Because I know many of you will be purchasing fall fragrances from Bath and Body Works, I thought I’d write up a fun beauty post rating Bath and Body Works’s New Fall Fragrances.
While I know we all have different scents that appeal to us, I thought there could be no harm in sharing my opinions on Bath and Body Works’s new fall scents! So sit back, try to imagine it’s not still summer, and enjoy this seasonal beauty blog post! Note: I’ll be linking the fragrance to just one of the many products available in that scent.
This was hands down my favorite fall fragrance! A mixture of warm marigold petals, sandalwood, sparkling bergamot, and cedar leaf, this scent is a great segue from summer to fall. Because it is still very much summer in Tennessee and fall doesn’t officially start until mid September, I’m trying to savor the last weeks of summer before fully giving into my autumn cravings (that’s why the pumpkin scents are more towards the middle of this review). I liked the Bright Autumn Blooms scent so much I purchased it in both the Super Smooth Body Lotion and Jelly Body Scrub!
Another yummy fall scent by Bath and Body Works, the Whipped Vanilla and Spice had such a warm, sweet smell. A combination of whipped vanilla, ground cinnamon, creamy tonka, and golden honey, this fragrance gives off subtle fall vibes. I purchased a Shea + Vitamin E Shower Gel in the scent because I knew the rich fragrance on my skin would smell so good in and out of the shower.
While I typically go for scents with more flair in their titles, the “Crisp Morning Air” fragrance really took me by surprise. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much, but when I tested the product, I was pleasantly surprised! Comprised of fresh pine, juniper, and juicy pear, this subdued fall scent is perfect for washing your hands. Personally, I don’t like to wash my hands in a scent that is too overpowering… if I do, I feel like I’m eating that flavor all day long! That said, Crisp Morning Air was the perfect soap option, and I picked up one gentle foaming hand soap in the muted fall fragrance to use in my bathroom at home.
Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Pumpkin – I swear when the Bath and Body Works Fragrance Board (Is there really such a thing?) got together to determine the line for this fall, they all had one unanimous thought: pumpkin! I’m going to be honest, I couldn’t tell much of a difference in many of these pumpkin scents. They were all pretty similar. It was the minor scents each pumpkin fragrance was paired with that made the difference.
Out of all the pumpkin scents, I enjoyed Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin the most. When it gets a little cooler here in East Tennessee, I can imagine myself purchasing a bath fizzy, room spray, or three-wick candle in this scent. In addition to pumpkin, this fall scent is comprised of warm cinnamon, fresh ground clove, vanilla cream, and brown sugar. If that doesn’t sound cozy, then I don’t know what does!
This fall scent is a current favorite of many Bath and Body Works employees. In fact, the older woman checking out in front of me stated that the “Pumpkin Cupcake” was her favorite. It showed because she purchased 5 soaps in it… but hey! to each their own (the soaps were on sale for 5 for $23 so I can’t say I blame her!).
This sweet autumn scent is a mixture of baked pumpkin, whipped vanilla frosting, and golden honey. If I were purchasing a couple fall gifts for younger girls or older ladies with a sweet tooth, I’d probably buy an item or two in the Pumpkin Cupcake scent. If I was purchasing a pumpkin scent for myself however, I’d go with the warmer, more subtle Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin.
Yet another pumpkin scent! A mixture of red apple, ground cinnamon and fall pumpkin, this scent wasn’t exactly subtle, but it wasn’t overpowering either. If you’re sick of summer and ready to fall into fall, then this pumpkin scent may be a great option for you! While it isn’t near as strong in pumpkin as the Pumpkin Cupcake or Carmel Pumpkin Swirl, it does give off a nice spicy warm fragrance reminiscent of those late fall days at grandma’s! If you are looking for a unique scent for your home, I believe Pumpkin Apple is a great option. It is comforting but not too overbearing.
Described as “A Pumpkin Lover’s Dream,” this pumpkin scent is a mixture of pumpkin, caramel, brown sugar, and vanilla. I feel like this is truly the “adult version” of Pumpkin Cupcake. I had a similar reaction to this scent as I did the Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin fragrance. I liked it a lot, it was just too fall for me right now. I can easily see myself buying this scent in a wallflower or even a nourishing hand soap made with pumpkin butter to indulge in during those cooler evenings in September and October.
I had high hopes for this pumpkin scent… I mean it’s name includes “Pumpkin Latte.” While, it didn’t smell exactly how I imagined it would, Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte is a great fall fragrance option for those who love darker, warm smells. A combination of pumpkin latte, toasted marshmallow, creamy sandalwood, and praline musk, this scent has a lot going on, so it is pretty powerful – at least in the body cream form that I tested. Personally, I don’t like putting anything on my body that is extremely strong, but if you like stronger, more robust fragrances, then you will enjoy Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte in the body cream. That said, I would probably get it as a hand soap for my bathroom. It truly is a seasonal scent that myself, my husband, and our guests will love to wash our hands in during the coming months.
I’m going to be honest, when I saw Champagne Apple & Honey on the shelf with the other fall scents, I actually thought it was in the wrong location, but nope! It’s actually a part of Bath and Body Works’s fall collection. Personally, Champagne Apple & Honey reminded me too much of spring (even though the packaging lists “autumn woods” as included in the scent)! It was fruity and fresh, just like the packaging. I know people go apple picking in the fall, but this fragrance, just didn’t scream “fall” to me, and there are many other fall scents I would go for in the store before this one!
This fall scent just had too much going on for me. Kind of like the title, it was like the scent was battling for which major fragrance would win out: coconut or pumpkin. I mean, look to the right – even the packaging can’t decide if it’s a summer or fall fragrance. Initally, I even thought the circle in the middle of the bottle was a cute yellow life raft. I was so confused by this scent, I put the candle I was sniffing down and moved on. My opinion is that “Coconut Pumpkin Latte” is the biggest pumpkin fragrance fail for Bath and Body Works this season.
Just to put it out there, I’m not a very “woodsy” scent girl, so “Crisp Orchard Leaves may actually deserve a better rating than what I’ve given it. For what it’s worth, the packaging was very fall, but I wasn’t impressed with the scent inside. A mixture of pear slices, cool air (how exactly does Bath and Body Works get that in the bottle?), fresh picked apples, and oak leaves, this scent came off as very male to me. I actually think my husband would wear it as a deodorant if it was available, and I would just never put anything on my body that I think my husband would wear. Give me Bright Autumn Blooms over Crisp Orchard Leaves any day!
12. Autumn Sunshine
There are not many scents I don’t like at Bath and Body Works, but unfortunately Autumn Sunshine is one of them! My eye was really drawn to the yellow packaging of Autumn Sunshine, but I was so disappointed with the fragrance inside. The mix of lemon, grapefruit, and vetiver just reminded me of my late grandmother’s obsession with Pine-Sol. I’d prefer not to smell like a house cleaner this fall.
All Sniffed Out
All in all, I really enjoyed going to Bath and Body Works and sniffing out all of their new fall fragrances. Let me clarify, there are some minor fall scents that did not make this list for one of two reasons: 1) either I didn’t get to sniff it and form an opinion (a tragedy I know!) or 2) the fragrance is only offered in select items (i.e. candles or wall flowers).
If you live near a Bath and Body Works, I encourage you to go and do a little sniffing of your own. If not, feel free to use my ratings as a guide for buying fragrances online!
