Happy August lovelies! When a new month begins, I like taking the time to reflect on the previous month – my actions, budget, health, obsessions, spiritual wellbeing, marriage… the list goes on and on. I do this not so much to reflect on the memories (though that is nice!), but to evaluate myself and adjust my habits or attitude. I think towards the end of each month, it’s easy to get down or feel tired and even frustrated, so I started doing a personal monthly reflection about six months ago so that I could put the not-so-good behind me and start fresh with a new mindset! Think of completing a monthly reflection as hitting a reset button on your life! As I was meditating on the month of July this morning, I thought, why not share some of this reflection on July in a blog post!?! That said, I thought I’d take the time to share seven items I was obsessed with during July!
1. “Songs Taylor Loves” on Spotify
I’ve loved Taylor Swift for over a decade of my life (yes I self-identify as a #swiftie), so when she released a playlist of songs she loves on Spotify, I signed right up to listen (it’s free)! Although Taylor has talked about her musical influences before, I was still curious what my favorite singer listened to on a regular basis. Turns out, Taylor not only makes great music, but she has great tastes in music as well.
The playlist includes more popular hits like Bazzi’s “Mine”, Taylor’s own “Delicate,” and Dan + Shay’s “Tequila.” Mixed with the well-known songs are less familiar songs from artists I’ve never heard of. Some of my favorite lesser known songs include Eight Ninety’s “Your Favorite Song,” Marianas Trench’s “Rhythm of Your Heart,” LANCO’s “Win You Over,” and Bootstraps’ “Replica.”
After listening to Taylor’s playlist multiple times throughout the month of July, it’s clear to where some of her latest musical decisions have stemmed from. If you like Taylor Swift even a tiny bit or you’re just looking for a variety of quality songs to put on, this playlist is a solid option for the remaining weeks of summer.
2. Clinique’s Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator
Part of my nightly skincare routine for July, Clinique’s Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator has made such a difference in the health and appearance of my skin. The fragrance-free gel-cream is so cooling on my face, and it gives me an instant moisture boost. Even though there were many hot days in Tennessee during the month of July, my skin always felt hydrated! This feeling was probably due to Clinique’s Auto-Replenishing Technology within the gel-cream which actually helps the skin create its own water source and rehydrate itself (neat, huh?). The whole month of July, I woke up instantly feeling better about myself because when I looked in the mirror, my face appeared healthy. No doubt, this July favorite will become an August favorite as well!
3. The Netflix original series The Crown
Calling all my British royal family followers and Downton Abbey fans, The Crown is for you! *No Spoilers Below!* Originally released in 2016, this period drama follows the life of Queen Elizabeth the II. Focused around the topics of political rivalries, family problems, personal struggles, and romance, this series has been on repeat in my home. My computer science husband isn’t so crazy about the show, but as a lover of English and history, I haven’t been able to stop watching! The costumes are amazing (I wish I had Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth the II’s wardrobes), the storyline is historically accurate, and the acting is superb (Claire Foy is so talented!). In fact, The Crown is a 2018 Emmy Nominee in the Outstanding Drama Series category! I’m just about to wrap up Season 1 and start Season 2! Note: I originally didn’t watch the show due to its MA rating, but as of yet, I haven’t discovered anything inappropriate.
4. Chick-Fil-A’s White Peach Tea Lemonade
This citrus-sweet combination is the perfect non-alcoholic drink for summer! Usually I’m counting down the days until Chick-Fil-A brings their peach milkshake out for the summer season, so I was pleasantly surprised when they came out with this drink in addition to their seasonal shake! You can get the white peach tea lemonade with either Sweet or Unsweetened Iced Tea AND diet or regular Lemonade. Personally, I’ve been getting the white peach tea with sweet tea and diet lemonade, and it is so good! I’ll hate to see it go when fall gets into full swing.
5. Rose Gold Nike Swooshes
During July, I purchased a new pair of active sneakers, specifically the Nike Flex Experience Run 6 in a cream color with a rose gold swoosh. Not only do this shoes feel amazing on my feet, but they look so adorable and I got them on sale for $40 (originally $65.00)! Like most girls, I’m obsessed with rose gold anything, so when I saw Nike sneakers with rose gold swooshes, I pounced to purchase a pair! Just last week, my 12 year old sister showed me her new sneakers, and guess what?, they were a pair of black Nike sneakers with a rose gold swoosh! Looks like I’m not the only one infatuated with that rose gold swoosh!
6. That Cookie Dough: Edible Birthday Cake Cookie Dough
A couple week ago, I had That Cookie Dough’s edible birthday cake cookie dough, and I have been OBSESSED ever since! Initally, I bought a cup of the cookie dough through a store in downtown Elizabethton, TN, then I bought that same cookie dough through Petite Sweets. Turns out That Cookie Dough is a business located in the Mercantile On State in Bristol, TN, and the owners actually sale out their product to other businesses which is why I’ve been able to find it at multiple places. Personally, I’m a sucker for both rainbow sprinkles and white chocolate chips, and that just happens to be the toppings used in the edible Birthday Cake cookie dough! While there are directions for baking the dough, I just eat it raw, and it is ah-mazaing!
7. ABC’s Bachelorette Becca Kufrin’s Fashion
On Monday nights this past July, I (and even my husband on occasion) have been glued to the television screen for hours at a time watching men vie for Becca Kufrin’s heart on ABC’s The Bachelorette. Besides all the wonderful location settings, hot romance, and ample juicy male gossip (there’s just something about men gossiping that is sooo entertaining!), I have honestly been obsessed with Becca’s fashion style. I don’t care that people help style her, I still love each of her outfits. They fit the occasions and activities of the show so well, and they really do match Becca’s personality.
If you like her style, I discovered this great website – Style Star – which tries to provide women with the proper links to most of Becca’s clothing items. It’ll even tell you if the item you’re wanting is sold out or available to shop! Side Note: The live finale of ABC’s The Bachelorette comes on Monday night at 8:00 p.m. I’m excited to see what amazing outfits Becca will wear, and I can’t wait to figure out who she’s given her final rose to! Tune in with me!
Bonus Obsession: White Jeans for the Win!
If you’ve been following me for the month of July, then you’ve probably seen me in white jeans… maybe even more than once. I just love wearing white jeans in the summer, particularly since there’s that whole unspoken fashion rule about not wearing white after Labor Day. I feel so chic and light in my white jeans, especially when I pair them with a cute blouse and some heels! Honestly, there’s just something about a good pair of white jeans that instantly upgrades any summer outfit!
Hitting that reset button!
While I fully anticipate some of these obsessions to carry over into August, I’m excited to take on new activities, try some new products, and grow as an individual. Let me know in the comments below what your July obsessions were, and as always feel free to connect with me on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Cheers to a new month my friends!
Until next time my darlin’,
