TGIF girlies! I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to the weekend! Since starting my blog Sweet Southern Mrs., I’ve received lots of questions in the form of direct messages on my Instagram. I thought I’d take the time today to answer some of these questions so that my new readers and followers – there are quite a few of you – can get to know me better. From time to time, I’ll probably write up an FAQ Friday blog post because I really do love hearing from you all and getting to answer some of your most-asked questions! Note: My first lifestyle post was “23 Facts about Your Sweet Southern Mrs.” Check that post out if you’re looking for even more information about me.
How old are you?
Believe it or not, I’ve gotten asked this question tons since starting my blog! A lot of you have assumed I’m either really young, like in high school, or in my late 20s. I’m actually 23, but I’ll turn 24 on October 6th! I used get really nervous about growing older – my husband constantly calls me “old lady” because I’m 2 years older than him! – but now that I’ve finally started doing what I love everyday, I’m not so nervous anymore. 23 has been fun! I’ve grown and accomplished A LOT! That said, I think 24 will be my best year yet! Look out for some birthday month blog posts coming this October!
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
That’s a tough one because the destination changes from day to day depending on my mood and what my Instagram feed shows! Right now, I really want to travel to the Amalfi Coast, a 30-mile stretch of coastline along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula. One of my inspirations Julia Engel – Gal Meets Glam – recently spent time there, and I have been OBSESSED with all of her images! There are quaint little villages and enchanting views all around! There are vineyards, orchards, and pastures. Plus, it’s all right by the sea! Fun Fact: The Amalfi Coast was used for the film Wonder Woman as the Amazon island of Themyscira.
Did you go to college? If so, what did you major in?
I went to college at East Tennessee State University School (Go Bucs!) from fall 2012 to fall 2015. While I was always an English major, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go on and get my MA, MFA, or even JD… at one point I was even pre-med. I was a member of two honors programs, ETSU’s Fine and Performing Arts Honors College and ETSU’s Honors in Discipline in English. In the end, I just couldn’t give up on English. I love reading and writing so much. I literally write every day, if not for this blog then my own novels (yes novels! I just have so many ideas bouncing around!) and poems on the side… who knows, maybe you’ll see one of my books published one day! I ended up graduating a semester early with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing. In the fall of 2016 I went back to East Tennessee State University for my Master of Arts in English. Immediately after graduating with my MA in May of 2018, I began my doctorate at ETSU once again in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis with a concentration in Higher Education Leadership. I’ll be in that program until (fingers crossed!) May of 2021. While I’d like to go to law school for educational policy after that and eventually work in Washington DC, my husband is really encouraging me to get a job. Honestly, there’s just no telling where I’ll be come May of 2021. I’m always praying for guidance, and so far everything has worked out!
How did you and your husband meet?
Because I graduated college in three-and-a-half years, I had a gap between finishing my BA and starting my MA. During that gap I got hired at a little downtown frozen yogurt shop in my hometown, Sweetsie Treats (used to be Tweetsie Treats). One day my future husband Logan walked in – I still remember what he was wearing the first time I saw him – and he kept walking in nearly everyday after that.
We were both shy people, and I was so naive that I thought he was just coming in for the yogurt! My boss Kim and co-worker Becky were actually the ones who suggested he was more interested in me than the yogurt. After about two months of chatting and meeting his family (he brought them in for yogurt too!), he gave me a business card for one of his apps that had his phone number on it. For two weeks I went back and forth on whether he gave me the card for his phone number or because he wanted me to check out his app. One evening while I wasn’t working, Becky texted me and encouraged me to text Logan right then so that she could gage his reaction for me. I took the plunge and asked him to go to lunch or on a hike, and he responded by asking me out on a fancy first date to Ruth’s Chris in Asheville, NC. Fun Fact: We return to Ruth’s Chris every year to celebrate that first date! It’s one of my favorite days of the year. Within six months of our first date, we were engaged and within less than a year of meeting, we were married. This November I’ll actually be doing a several wedding throwbacks and anniversary posts so look forward to that!
Do you plan on doing any back-to-school blogs?
Funny you should ask that! Next week each of my posts will actually be dedicated to back-to-school topics: fashions for class, beauty essentials, and undergraduate versus graduate lifestyles are just a few of the topics I’ll be covering throughout the week! Come back on Monday for my first back-to-school blog post! I promise there will be something for you whether you’re a senior in high school, freshman in college, or graduate student.
Are you a full-time blogger?
No, I am not a full-time blogger. That would be awesome, but I’m still too into my education to even consider blogging full-time. The whole reason I started my blog Sweet Southern Mrs. was to connect with other ladies out there and share my writing and thoughts. Right now, I’m satisfied with the content I’m producing as a part-time blogger. If (and that’s a BIG IF) I were to ever become a “big-time” author, I would probably just write, travel, and blog full-time.

What’s your advice for beginning bloggers?
Personally, I still consider myself a beginning blogger! I’m learning more and more everyday about blogging and social media platforms. That said, my main piece of advice would be to just START WRITING. I talked on and off about doing a blog for a year before actually launching Sweet Southern Mrs. I missed a year’s worth of fun posts and fashion! Start now. My second piece of advice is this: if you’re in this for the followers or free products, don’t blog. Because I love writing, my follow count and the free stuff doesn’t matter as much to me! Yes I’d like to collaborate with businesses and have as many women reading my stuff as possible, but if you get into blogging for the wrong reasons, you’re going to get disappointed and burnt out fast. Blog because you love to, not because it’s a platform that will get you followers or free products.
That’s all for this FAQ!
I hope you all enjoyed getting to know me a little better! If you have any other questions that I didn’t cover, feel free to comment below this blog post, or ask me on Instagram!
I love hearing from you all, and who knows? Depending on how many questions I get, I may make this FAQ Friday a regular monthly post! As always follow me on my social media outlets: Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter.
Until next time my darlin’,
